Reading is a human right.

We’re a nonprofit based in Atlanta, GA dedicated to restoring access to books for those inside prison walls. Join us today.

Resources are lacking.

Most people who are incarcerated in Georgia do not have adequate access to books; more than half of prison libraries have no books on Martin Luther King Jr., and two-thirds of them don’t have anything on Malcolm X.

You can help us change that.

Whether you want to support us with your time, your resources, or your books, you will be a part of the X Books community. Together, we can restore access to books for those who are presently incarcerated.

What X Books Does

  • Used Books

Because of the restrictions on donating used books to individuals, we regularly donate thousands of books to stock prison libraries across the state. Have some books to donate? Click below!

  • New Books

Every quarter, we send catalogs to people inside to provide free, new books that our readers want to read. After they are returned, we process the selections and send brand new books to facilities all over Georgia.

  • "...Kids need programs like this once they are released to keep having these conversations with people who not only care, but people who see them."

    — Bianca

  • "Thank you for the books donated to us. It’s an absolute luxury to get my hands on a brand new book of pertinent information. The books and you are greatly appreciated."

    — Buford

  • "You guys make me feel like people do care and they haven’t just ‘thrown away the key’ and forgot about me. Keep doing what you do!"

    — Anthony

Our Impact

  • The total number of books we’ve donated so far to facilities all across the state.

  • The number of different facilities in Georgia we’ve given brand new books to.

  • The average cost of a book sent directly to someone presently incarcerated.
